I am going to review Boundless Planet. It is in free beta right now.

I found this game on a Google search so I took a look at the screenshots on the website,, and it look really interesting. I then decided to try it out. It looked like a good substitute for Command and Conquer, which I played to death. I then downloaded it. It didn't take long, install and patch were also fast.

I ran the game and clicked on a Planet (server). It loaded fairly quickly and I saw this vast map. If I would have looked to the top of the screen (which I didn't) I would have saw that it said "Planet full, try a different one...". I shouted out in the chat hoping someone was out there. Someone was. He turned out to be a very nice guy, like everyone else I met. He told me to click a few buttons to check where my troops were. I had none. He told me to log-in again (painfully slow, 'cause you have to exit and run the game again). I did and saw the "Planet full, try a different one..." message this time. I tried the only other Planet. That too was full. I had to check back later after someone was deafeted so a spot would open up.

Half-an-hour later I logged in and got a spot. I was very happy at this. I started building some units, a real life friend who I magically (seriously, I never knew he played this game) met with in game helpped me out a bit. He told me what to do and what not to do. I ended up making a few key mistakes, including attacking "Vimes". This "Vimes" is basically the Emperor of the game. He has control of over 50% of each Planet. Chances are that you have been in contact with his forces before if you play this game. I, however, got to be his ally with some quick thinking (basically being very nice and acting all "innocent"). I surrendered on that planet because I messed up on my resource management. I got pretty lucky and hate to wait next to nothing to get a spot on the other planet. I got pretty far on this planet, but soon got bored. Boundless Planet is not a game for me, The textures are poor, the models are poor, the enviroment is great...but all art is poor. I know they could have done better then that or at least hired an artist. The sounds are rare to hear, however the music is great. The only problem, like I said, is that it plays every 30 minutes to an hour. Units take a long time to build, and you can't queue them up. I found myself looking for a hotkey for my factory. I did not find one. The minimap was useful, but definately not enough. Your units are displayed on it with square dots, however these were very poorly designed, had to search a little when going to my units. Researches take about 2 hours each. Some smaller ones take less, but they are mostly useless other then the fact that they give you more options for reasearch. Battling was very boring, there were some pretty attacking animations but other then that it is all: Bang, Bang bang, Bang, Bang bang.

Art: 5/10

Gameplay: 7/10

Units & Buildings (creativity): 4/10
(amount available): 7/10

Overall: 6/10

Things the game needs:

More races/nations. (only 1)

More resources. (only has 2)

Better art.

More creative units. (only has basic types, artillery, airplanes, tanks and scouts)

More planets.

Better newbie help.

I have been playing Boundless Planet for over a year and cherish it very much. I like it that much because it is difficult to master, alas some time is needed to learn all the ins and outs of the game. But after.....

The best part of Boundless Planet is the strategy you have to use to conquer player(s)/ faction(s) is incredible, in some ways its more strategic then MedievalTW. This also due to the recourcemanagement, you have to consider your fuelusage and mining income.

The graphics arent great and a larger unit-scale would be nice. But the game now (while still developing) is a strategy lover's wet dream. Come check it out and if you like some help ask the faction members for some tips, we'll be honoured to welcome you and get you battle ready!
